Season 2013 – A year full of excitement.

Season 2013 started with a huge sucess in the Algarve Circuit in Portugal and Barcelona, Spain. Confirming the series as an exciting FIA-sanctioned international series

Season 2013 of Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge started with a bang. Algarve and Barcelona racetracks marked the “European phase” of the season and held great high level races, offering plenty of excitement and confirming the series as an exciting FIA-sanctioned international series.

In Barcelona, three ex-Formula 1 Drivers where in porsche’s cockpit: Ricardo Rosset (usual Porsche driver), Roberto Moreno and Jochen Mass, who ran tests with both Cup and Challenge models, respectively. Moreno and Mass extensively complimented the racing format of the series, in which all cars are handed to drivers in the exact same racing capacity. Being in Barcelona had also the attraction of being part of the Espiritú de Montjuïc festival that, although being quite new (this was the fourth edition), is already one of the most important classic car show in Europe.

In the Brazilian stages, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge had seven more stages. As in 2012, three would be part of big events: FIA-WEC 6 hours of São Paulo in september, the Brazilian Formula 1 GP in november and the Stock Car finale “Million Race” in december. All of them happening in Interlagos.

On track, the creation of the Master subdivision is the news. Open only to Cup drivers over 50 years old (or to be by the course of the season). In each stage of the Cup class, Master drivers will have a dedicated podium ceremony and scoreboard, apart from the overall score. The points and discard system are identical as the Cup’s. It is another initiative to create competition that is both balanced and in equal terms to all drivers.

Another great step for Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge in 2013 was a partnership with Terra Networks, they will feature all races live in their web portal. The TV show Auto Mais, from Band TV channel, also has a special segment for the series. Both channels add to the broadcast by open channel Bandeirantes and the cable channel SporTV.

New excitement is already expected for 2014. In Barcelona, drivers had the first glimpse of the new 911 GT3 Cup “991” with a 460hp engine. This car started being used in 2013 by Porsche Supercup series (the championship that follows the Formula 1 rounds in Europe and Asia) and will be available for other series starting next year. Our Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge is one of them. Stay tuned!
